Plogue Bidule is a real-time, modular digital audio framework that allows you to build highly complex, custom VST, VST3, and AU routings. Acting like a digital patchbay, it lets you visually connect MIDI, audio, and spectral signals using virtual cables.
Whether running Plogue Bidule as a standalone application or as a plugin inside your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), building custom routings follows a highly structured, node-based workflow. 1. Identify Module Connectors
Every object inside the workspace is called a bidule. Modules feature physical connector pins at the top and bottom that use universal, color-coded behaviors: White Pins: MIDI data (notes, CC automation, and clocks).
Blue Pins: Audio signals (mono, stereo, or multi-channel data).
Orange/Yellow Pins: Spectral vector signals (used for advanced Fast Fourier Transform processing). Top Pins: Inputs. Bottom Pins: Outputs. 2. Instantiate Your Devices
Before routing, you must populate your canvas with sound generators and processors:
Right-click anywhere on the blank canvas or open the Palette menu.
Navigate to Audio Devices or MIDI Devices to drop in your hardware input/output blocks.
Locate your third-party VSTs, VST3s, or Audio Units under the VST or AU submenus and drag them onto the page. 3. Wire the Modules
Signals move strictly from the bottom outputs of an upstream module to the top inputs of a downstream module.
Single Connection: Click and hold an output pin, drag the cable to an input pin, and release.
Multi-Cable Routing: Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (macOS) while drawing a cable between two multi-channel modules. Bidule will automatically patch all consecutive parallel channels (e.g., matching stereo Left/Right pins instantly).
Splitting and Merging: You can drag multiple cables out of a single pin to split the signal, or drop multiple cables into one input pin to auto-mix them. 4. Implement Intermediate Routing Modules
For advanced logic layouts, navigate to the Routing category in the palette to inject processing switchboards between your plugins: Sugar Bytes Turnado | Under Plogue Bidule & M Control
